Default Anyone notice a decrease in braking performance after removing the vacuum pump rod?

<i>"Removal of this rod will most likely decrease your vacuum assist, but you really don't need that much vac assist anyway. The only use for this extra vacuum is for "heel-and-toe" driving, or the kind of driving you do at a track event. Not useful unless you drive above 3k rpm while braking all the time. If you do, then you WILL run out of brake assist"</i>

I may be autoXing w/ it, so I'm just wondering if anyone that's removed it &amp; drives the car hard or in high rpms has noticed a decrease?<ul><li><a href="http://www.endosquid.com/audi/aud4kfix_vacpum.htm">http://www.endosquid.com/audi/aud4kfix_vacpum.htm</a</li></ul>

Default Even with heal-toe driving it's not a problem

It really onl;y helps when you are HARD on the brakes AND gas at the same time. You're engine makes plenty of vacuum most of the time. If you are really paranoid, you could add a vacuum reservoir inline...

Default I have been dying to try this, thanks for the link. I did it in 5 mins, omg- the best DIY ever!

I was worried about dis-assembling my GF car when she needs it every day. I did not know what exactly to look for as far as the push rod goes and even considered buying a manual, (ghasp)! I thought the rod would maybe be connected to something and the VC would have to come off. It was easy except I did not have a box wrench, my burly red-neck neighbour put his 1/2in SAE wrench on the 13mm and got it loose. I felt like a *****, but was really happy it was getting done. I did nothing more than slide out the bar and wipe the mounting face down. Did not want to f-around with the gasket. No more suffering from the clacking sound and the stares of surly Audi-haters that go along with it. The best DIY, ever. I owned so many 5cyls and my mechanic never told me about the bar. I think he even put in a set of lifters a long time ago. That is BS, if you have a knock, listen with a big screwdriver and pull out that GOD DAMMED rod!

Glad you found the link helpful. I've only done it to 2 of my fleet so far though.

Other than idle there was no really noticeable decrease on aggressive braking/driving?
