Default An inherited 87 Audi 4000 CS Quattro

Just out of randomness I inherited this unique project car from a good friend of mine. The car came with a fresh paint job, 17" wheels and Euro headlights. Over time I am wanting to add in upgrades, first being a glass moonroof (still searching) and so on... I have been finding it difficult to locate engine bay shrouds, taillight cluster, and the little things. Hopefully this forum will be helpful in quest for completion. Here are a few pictures of the project so far and more to come!

You've got a nice start on a project car. If you find any engine bay shrouds could you let us know?

Default awesome

how does it run? if it runs good, i would start by getting all the body parts for it like the bumpers and so on. I really like the euro lights. You will probably get alot of help around here. Im kind of a beginner to these cars myself, im only 16 and ive had my 87 4000S since i was 12. But dont exclude me as a helper yet!

i dont believe a factory glass sunroof existed on any 80's Audi, so if your looking for factory, i think you might run into a dead end. Although an aftermarket option may be available. The mechanical design of the sliding metal roof may not work well with glass because of the internal design of the slide. But i may be wrong.

That looks like a great place to start!

What color is it? It's always hard to tell in pictures. Looks kind of fuchsia...

I would just take a measuring tape to the junkyard and see what glass sunroof would fit. You'd be surprised how many other cars have parts that fit so well it's almost creepy. I would definitely shoot for a non-opening sunroof though. It's possible you could find one to swap on the Audi mechanism, but don't expect that.

It's funny though, all the junkyard 4kqs I've come across have all the "rare" stuff, like radiator shrouds, instrument cluster vents, et cetera. So I'd just hunt some down. Again, you'll probably be surprised.

when you mention radiator shrouds, do you mean the painted cardboard piece that guides air ?

I'm assuming that's what was meant. There's normally a couple of pressboard pieces that are usually gone and then plastic on one side plus the plastic top. I'm planning on replacing the pressboard with aluminum on my cars. One of these days...

The more air you can get to stay going through the radiator rather than around it the better.

Nice car! I'm jealous of your headlights and perfectly straight rear apron. wheels look good. needs more low.
Pretty sweet inheritance if ya ask me. Keep the updates coming, this site needs more traffic as does the 4k world!

The car is Tornado Red (pictures do no justice). 4000's are rare in my town, though I did come across a 5000, in almost perfect condition at a Pull-A-Part. The first thing I went for was the seat track bushings but those were gone... I guess the Euro Coupe's came with a glass roof.

I might just make my own radiator shroud and AC blower cover. I run a CNC machine, so I can get pretty creative with aluminium!

The car runs great for sitting for 4 years. Patched a vacuum leak and it fired over. The only problem so far is it idles at 2,000rpm...

Otherwise all the body parts are still at the painters and I just have to "patiently" wait.
