Oooh... looky what I found... (must have for future turbo swap people)
Biggest was (as mikey said) the EFI, but it was my fault. I had set up a relay where the AC condensor goes. Out of the blue, the ECU stopped getting power. I tore out EVERYTHING involving that relay and fought w/ trying to get it resoldered, etc. Turned out that the trigger wire from the ignition switch got wrapped up in the steering column and broke in two, thus not triggering the relay for the ECU and the rest of the fuse panel I installed there. After I fixed that, I walked away from the car for the rest of the day if memory serves me right... haha.
i'm going to be getting a 1984 4000s quattro. for 1k.
but also! ill be getting an entire 5000 quattro turbo 1986ish. to steal the turbo and harness stuff from.
then part out the rest. just wondering where i could find this intercooler as it seems easiest:

its from a UR Quattro and seems to fit really well into the 4000q.
getting really excited to start the swap...

CIS stands for Continuous Injection System. That means fuel sprays constantly from all injectors rather than each injector spraying only when its specific cylinder needs fuel. I call it pretend fuel injection or carburetor on crack. Either way, I happen to like it because it's easy and pretty bulletproof, much like a carburator.
The MC1 had one knock sensor, the MC2 had two. Those are on the driver side of the engine, down toward the crankcase. Most likely you have an MC1. A "rule of thumb" way to tell is most MC1s had a K26 turbo and most MC2s had a K24. It'll say on the turbo's tag. There was some crossover in later years, but for an '86 you can be pretty sure of what you have.
