The German b!t$h is at it again! >sigh< Any ideas ??
Fuel pump and Fuel filter replaced 3 weeks ago. Car has been running excellent since. Started after 1 second, excellent pickup, yada, yada.
Well my New Years curse has started
Engine turns over great, no start - Checked and verified the following: Fuel pump (overide with wire), Spark from wires (at plugs) and at main, Have cleaned and gapped all plugs, Cap/rotor fine, No noticeable vaccum lines broken or mangled, battery and earth grounds appear fine, No airfilter or other restrictions, I hear the pump and FPR click when the ignition is on.
Now - I have tried the fuse in the FPR (fuel pump relay) trick whilst trying to start the car with no luck. Next, I have cranked the engine for a LONG time (just FPR) and the car almost wants to start. I checked the plugs immediately after and they are not that wet (no flooding is happening). I have tried the metal jumper for 10 + seconds and replaced with the FPR no luck.
Ideas? Is the FPR shot? The cold start valve should be soaking the plugs badly but it isn't. Is the damn fuel pump bad again? ARGH.
Please any ideas would be great.
Have a FPR on order at a local parts store, should be in tomorrow. Needed a backup anyways.
I don't think this is the problem although....
How is the ignition switch?
Its inexpensive about $30
Sometimes giggling the key or if you can get your hand behind the dash and push in on the switch while someone attempts to start the car.
When mine went bad it intermittantly would started but always cranked over...
I carefully took apart the FPR and it looks fine - cleaned the contact anyways. I decided to insert it back into the fuse box dissasembled.
Questions: I can see the FPR making contact for about 3+ seconds and then it stops making contact. Is this normal? I manually can make contact with the FPR and hear fuel pump and fuel filter chugging away. I have tried a number of times to start the car this way (manually creating contact) still the car is not starting - ?
Although after 10+ seconds of cranking this way it really wants to start. I have checked the plugs again and only a couple of them are really wet, the others are barely if at all wet. Could this be a injector problem? The car was running perfectly last night and 8 hours later no start....
You say it seems to want to start with a lot of cranking. Sounds like overly rich or flooding.
Try holding the gas peddle down about 1/3 when you are cranking it over. (the owners manual even says to do that)
Might be dirty injectors. Teckron injector cleaner in a tank or less than a tank.
