Two Problems
I have an 1989 Audi 100 with 160,000km on it. Love the car and it's in good condition!
However I have had an on going problem with the charging system. Sometimes under wet conditions the voltmeter will read just above 12 volts instead of near 14 volts. When this happens my wiper and blower motors operator slowly so I know it's not a voltmeter issue.
Last summer winter I took the car in to the mechanic to have them test the charging system. They came back and said the alternator was shot. Luckily I found a receipt from the previous owner who had replaced the alternator three years ago. Anyway I was to get the shop to replace the Bosch alternator under warranty with no cost to me. Dodged that bullet!
Replacing the alternator did not rectify the low voltage problem after all. I still have the same problem! What great troubleshot from the garage! Obviously they did not look at anything but replacing parts!
Just wondering if any had similar problems. I figure there is likely a interment short or bad connection somewhere on the engine. Anyone have a suspect component or electrical area idea?
One more issue. My outdoor temp indicator is reading about ten degrees low. Is it located behind the bumper? Is it difficult to replace?
Any comment are welcome!!

Re: Two Problems
Check the long positive cable going from the battery to the engine. There is a cable splice near the front passenger footwell where corrosion usually occurs.
Get a voltmeter and see what the alternator is putting out and then go back to the battery and see if the voltage is the same.
