window goes down, but doesn't come back up
So, this evening's project was to get the window back up. Took the door panel off, but then realized I can't get to the window raising/lowering mechanism. Was able to lift the window back up, the thing holds, and when I press the down button, it goes back down, just doesn't lift back up, even though I hear the motor run, etc.
So, is this a broken cable or something? If so, how do I get at it? Do I have to remove the whole big black steel frame inside the door? I see there are 4 large bolts holding it on, anything else? Does the whole window come with, including the window frame above? How is all that held on? Do I have to tear this all apart? Do I need to order some parts, or is it something readily fixable? Thanks!
Regulator is whole assebly with cables and motor.
You need to remove big black door frame and then remove regulator. While pulling frame out (it's heavy), make sure there are no wires or door's lock parts in the way. And than it's pretty simple once you have door's frame out of the car.
I don't know which car you got, but 5000, 100, 200 regulators are interchangeable.
If the passenger side works OK try plugging your drivers side wiring into this switch.
So, does the window frame come off with the heavy black frame too? Do you need to take any particular parts of the door lock and/or latch off? Or can they be left on?
Are there any good guides to doing this on the web?
So, if the cable is busted, do I need to get a complete new regulator assembly? I saw some discussion that the re-built ones are more robust (And cheaper). Any suggestions were to get one?
How come you couldn't access the window regulator
How could you lift the window back up ?

I didn't take of the inner black frame, I just pressed the "up" button and reached under the window and pushed it up. Seemed to work. But the regulator is on the other side of the frame (inside) so can't get to it without taking it off I guess.
