Default CV Joints

Does anybody have tips on replacing the CV boots on a '93 Audi 90S? Also my alarm mysteriously stopped working the other day and I'm wondering why. It's not the fuse becasue the car still locks. What could it be??

Only use the good "German" boots as they seem to be the only ones which can last. They come in "kit" form with grease & hardware.

Split boots are only a temp fix, and dont last.

Always replace boots on both axles, even if only one side is bad. The other(good) will go bad real soon.

Some folks say just get the whole axle, its cheaper....... I can get boot kits for $12 each, and have my axles rebooted myself in 2 hours.

Your old CV's are good as long as you havent ignored them, and all their grease has vanished.
Or you've caught the broken boots early enough.
If not the whole axle method would be the way to go.

Check the contact switches (small "plunger-type" items). Check them in both front doors, under the hood and in the trunk. If one of these breaks the alarm thinks the trunk/door/hood is open and won't arm the car. I would guess the contact switch in the trunk may be broke!!

Default how long were the boots ripped

If they've started clicking in turns, don't bother replacing the boots. Just replace the whole cv-joint or entire drive axle

Default hey- any idea how much the whole axle deal will cost? replaced the boot but too late...

it's clicking really bad now ...
