Default Steering rack play, very short video, is this excessive?

I've tightened the two bolts holding the bracket to the shaft and the bolts holding the tie rods to the bracket. There is no movement there. The tie rods are fine. The video was taken on my digital camera and shows the rotational play in the rack. I'm not sure if it is excessive or not or a possible cause to my front end shimmy. There is no axial play or radial play, only the rotaional play shown. Doesn't seem like enough to cause the shimmy and hard pull to the right I've been getting. All the mounting of the rack to the body is tight as well. The rack is out of a 4000, replaced my original one because it was leaking like crazy several years ago. Only other things can think of are (a) severely worn shocks (bilstiens on the way) or (b) subframe mounts. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Please click here for .mov video.

Default The vertical bolts that thread through the rack and tie rod arm (edited)

should have nuts on the bottom, are yours loose, if they aren't tightened hard enough they will back themseleves off giving that kind of play.

Default ok, someone please tell me what the part number is on the

horizontal bolt plate, shown in the picture here that attaches to the inner tie-rods.

Default Yes, as I noted in my description, all those bolts are tight, including the nuts on the bottom.

The shaft itself is rotating with the bracket. What I'm looking for is for somebody to compare the play I get with their own known-good rack. The video was taken with the wheel turned all the way to the right.

Default Yeah,

it's hard to tell if that bracket is loose on the rack, or if the whole rack is twisting inside the housing.
