Valve cover gasket replacement 90Q (early 7A)- torque specs?
I just ordered my valve cover gasket kit and am doing some preliminary research into dismantleing the intake manifold, throttle linkage ect.
It seems audi20v.net isn't up anymore so I was wondering if anyone had the repair manual pages for the operation.
I'll be digging into it later this week, any response would be greatly appreciated
thanks,
SOLID
So I know its bad news if the valve cover gasket is puking oil all over the place, and I finally have the gasket and intake gasket, to do the work on Saturday.
However, now there is a grip of oil in the spark plug cylinder, and my voltage gauge is reading a solid 11 volts when the car is running, multimeter reads 12.5 on the battery when it's not:
I talked to the tech when pricing the work to be done at the shop, and he said something like "its bad news when you get oil in the plug cylinder because..." and I forgot the rest. I have quit driving the car until I can replace the gasket, but now I am even weary of driving it to my friends house (about 10 miles) to do the work because I'm scared of some electrolysis **** happening. When I noticed the voltage irregularity yesterday, I drove home immediately and haven't driven the car sense.
My question is this: Would enough oil in the plug cylinder cause the spark to ground to the block and cause this constant 11 volts? When I add or remove loads, lights, defroster, etc. the voltage gauge remains at 11 volts.
Testing for DC at the alternator reads about 12.4 which gradually decreases. The alternator is only about a year old, but when I installed it, I put the pulley on backwards; so until recently, a bunch of belt material (and oil) have been flying around the front of the engine and I wonder if this might have fouled the alternator. Battery checks out.
I'm hoping I haven't ****ed up too bad by driving too long with the bad valve cover gasket, but I've had no other option as I am also job hunting, to pay for my quattro addiction...
What do you guys think?
The brushes in the VR get worn over time and the diode just gets old..and you get low voltage readings. About $25 from Rockauto.
