Default waterpump, timing belt question?

My mechanic said that at 90000 miles i need to change all that's moving parts in my audi 1993, 90s(waterpump, timing belt, idlers etc).

Can you tell me how much those things could cost and if it's hard to replace them? And exactly what parts I need?

Default read the 12v.org pages and see the list of things that need/should be done...

The problem that I've run into with Audi dealers and these major 30/60/90k services is that they don't follow the same schedule between dealerships. They've each decided to take it upon themselves to make up their own schedule that keeps the Warranty valid and just "check" the rest. Please be VERY CLEAR with the dealer because it took me 3 appointments and several, no many, "discussions" with various service advisors on up to the owner of a certain Audi dealer that tried to go around my 90k service and do as little as possible and still charge their flat 3.5 or 4 hours of labor plus parts and they only have listed on the invoice working on my car for about 1.5 hours. I was so pissed! At these intervals, in my opinion, all fluids should be flushed & filled (oil, coolant, brake, power steering, tranny, differentials), filters (air, oil, fuel), spark plugs, as well as the timing belt. It's a good idea to replace the water pump, timing belt tensioners, and the coolant thermostat. How old is the accessory belt? If it's original, I'd replace that too. On the list should also be oxygen sensors and cleaning out the ISV. You may have worn out ball joints, upper strut bearings and lower control arm bushings. If you plan to replace the struts at anytime, I'd do these as well.

Basically, this is a major service interval and the dealer WILL F'ck you over. They "check" everything and replace practically nothing for about $800-1K. My advice is: find a great Audi or German car specialist in your area and let them do all this for you for less labor time (the real labor time) and normal prices for parts. You may even get lucky to get a good working relationship with them and find your own parts for less money and let them do the labor. That's what I usually do.

Good luck!<ul><li><a href="http://www.12v.org/maint/60000.html">http://www.12v.org/maint/60000.html</a</li></ul>

Default Thanks Man

But i've decided that i'm not gonna do that myself, i went to one mechanic that specializes in Audi and WV and he said that replacing the timing belt, water pump and two pulleys would cost me $900 bucks, is that expensive for this work or not? Or what's a normal price for it not at the dealer?

One more question, is that scan from Bentley Manual? I'm going to europe next week and i think i'm gonna try to get myself one of those, cuz i think they're gonna alot cheaper.

Its a scan from a Timing Belt Manual, which has every timing belt proceedures for every car ever made with a timing belt.

$900 seems a bit high! Ask the shop how much they charge for parts? Labor?
