Default Aftermarket block heater power cord?

Do you know of an alternative source (other than VW or Audi) for a power cord or plug to connect the engine block heater? In this climate I doubt that I will ever need it but am a belt + suspenders kind of guy.

VW wants an arm and leg for the $20 cord. Surely there's a work around???

If you have a power [extension] cord for the Audi block heater and the time, please take it by an electrical supply house and see if there is a replacement socket and or plug that will fit and let us know here. I for one would appreciate it.

TIA

Surely someone participating in the forum [in North America] has a Audi power cord. Please see if it matches anything readily available. Thanks.

While my diesel suv's have a block htr and power cord,
I didn't realize that Audi's did - not mentioned anywhere that I can tell in my Q5 literature...

(of course, a lot is missing from our literature )

I'm not absolutely sure that my 2012 A3 TDI will be delivered with a block heater but have been led to believe that to be the case. I guess I will find out after I pick the car up in early January, huh?

Cheers,

Cheers,
You probably won't be getting a block heater with your A3.
I live in the frozen north of Canada and all I could get for my TT was an oil pan heater.

Maybe they work just as well? I don't know.

My 2010 came with the block heater & power cord. The connector on the car end is apparently a proprietary design; three pins in a triangular arrangement in a sort of mushroom-shaped plastic body. My A3 was built in Jan 2010 -- ones built later apparently had the heater but didn't include the cord, and ones built still later have neither heater nor cord.

I've seen this question pop up on other Audi forums, but have never seen a non-OEM alternative offered.

I was told specifically the 2012 does not include a block heater, and it is not available as an option.

The dealer told me it isn't necessary as long as you use local fuel. I'm guessing that means winter-additive fuel. Having driven diesel trucks at work, I can say that the mornings after I forgot to plug in were a little tougher starting, but not overly so.

I will miss the instant heat though.
