If so, what do you plan to do with your left over parts? I'm embarking on making an ashtray bin hybrid design and need some test parts to verify my design.

NOTE - I'm referring to a single DIN console, not double DIN (e.g. having NAV installed).

If your single DIN ashtray bin parts are collecting dust, I'll take them off your hands. Here's why:

My idea is to keep the ashtray bin but lower the storage area behind it. This would mean taking the ashtray delete part, trimming it just right, then bonding it to the rear part of the ashtray. It may also involve cannibalizing the original shelf part. I personally find the ashtray bin useful after taking out the insert and I like the additional aluminum trim. If I'm successful, I'll definitely post a photo guide for anyone else that is interested.

Default "I personally find the ashtray bin useful after taking out the insert and I like the alum trim"

EXACTLY. I don't quite understand the appeal of the delete kit. Then again... I don't have me A3 yet, just going by my previous audi's.

I'm interested in seeing what you come up with.

Default Good reasons... but in this pic...

What I don't like is the way the aluminum trim just gets cut off before the big black hole. Looks unnatural to me. But that's just my personal opinion.

I like to use the empty ashtray for coins and other small items than can be hidden by the cover. I'm going to replace the driver's grab handle with the sunglass holder. And anything else can go in the arm rest. I hate looking at junk in my car... it's gotta be clean!

Default that's exactly the reason why i didn't do the ashtray delete, imo, it lacks in asethetic appeal

compared to the original one, of course we all know that this kind of thing is very subjective, so more power to everyone who chooses one way or the other!

I'm with you Daddy-o. And the bin is perfect size for things like CD cases and sunglasses and stuff.
