Audi A3 reliability - better info - please sign up
With JET's support, for which I am very grateful, I've been posting about TrueDelta's reliability research about once a month.
What we provide: actual repair rates updated promptly four times a year.
Good participation by A3 owners, but more remain needed. The 2009 isn't in the survey yet, but we'll add it as soon as a couple more owners sign up.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results for free.

So far, 177 Audi A3 owners have signed up to participate. A very good start, but more remain needed. As before, especially need more 2008s and 2009s.

We've updated survey results for the A3 to include owner experiences through March 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2008: 14, better than average, but small sample size
2007: 42, better than average
2006: 122, worse than average, and worse than in earlier updates
Audi does appear to have substantially improved the reliability of its cars in recent model years. The big question is how they'll do after the original warranty ends--too soon to tell, but we'll be closely tracking them.

202 A3 owners now signed up. Better than earlier, but more remain needed, especially for the 2008 and 2009. Updated results around the end of the month.
