I bought myself an A3 and 3 months later the new spec. came out. The clocks on mine are red continuously as opposed to the new ones which are blue when the lights come on.
I wanted to change them so I asked the technician and he said it couldn't be done.The reason being that the new spec. has different pin settings on the harness!
My question to you, are they speaking nonsense?
If they are what can I tell them to make them change it?

Audi made some changes to the '00 A3 dashboard. White/red digits, digital clock and date (radio controlled in Europe).
I've never heard of a blueish dashboard. This must be some VW stuff - they have blue illumination on the Golf IV.

You are right, VW has a blue dashboard but its more shocking (brighter). This Audi's one is more dull. Mine doesn't have a digital clock/date display. (They said it was a late '99 model?).
Mine is red continuously. Always illuminated. (Boring). Is their any way they can fit the new spec. clocks in mine? That digital display is awesome with the door ajar sensors on the computer.

Radio Controlled Clock
I read in my manual that the clock is radio controlled at that a "radio mast" type icon would light up in the display to show this - I have never seen this and the clock needs to be adjusted for BST etc. I have the stock concert radio. Any thoughts???

The clock chip has a really weird behaviour. The clock tries to sync with the radio signal every night around 03:00. If there's no master signal for two or three consecutive nights, the radio controlled feature gets disabled, no tower in your dashboard. It must have been a real braindead programmer of that chip logic as almost everyone has his car in a box during the night.
Now, how to reactivate it: (...flipping through my A3 almanac's pages...)
Fuse #15 should do the job, just remove it for a few minutes, set the clock to 01:00 and leave the car outside for a few hours. It should re-sync if there's a valid signal and you should see the clock tower in the dashboard next to the clock digits.
