Sounds like a good deal and used a good approach. You are lucky that your dealer ordered an S-line model for stock - it seems most don't order Prestige models (let alone S-line) for stock very
often.

I coincidentally ordered the same configuration (but in Quartz Gray). Mine is coming the week of July 6 (a week early), so I'm pretty excited.

Default buy the 3.2 engine

i have driven 3 different A4 2.0 turbos. those engines are like sewing machine engines. they vibrate and make wierd noises. my wife even asked whats wrong with this car last time i had a loner when my car was being serviced try driving one when is 90 degrees with the Ac on. boy that engine struggles. i have am A5 3.2 and it runs very well. i would never get the 2.0 engine.

my take

Back to the original thread topic, the only way for you to make a decision is to drive both engines and see which one you like. Right now you can do that in the A4, or you can wait a few months and drive both in the A5.

The 3.2 is definitely smoother than the 2.0T and will have more in reserve above around 85mph. The 2.0T also has quite a bit more torque at low RPM but (sort of like a diesel) maxes out on power at about 5000RPM.

The 2.0T is faster at low speeds and can be tuned to get crazy high amounts of peak torque (330+ lb-ft). It is also much improved over previous versions of the engine. I am curious if the previous poster has tried the 2.0T in the B8 as it is much improved in the NVH department compared to the B7, not to mention quite a bit peppier.

Yeah, when I went to order the car today I drove the A4 with the 2.0T and the S-Line package just to compare. The newest iteration of the 2.0 is great, especially the torque at low RPM. It's pretty smooth. Since I'm getting the Tiptronic and don't drive too rev-happy most of the time, it seemed like the best option for me. I've had 3 previous cars with turbos and loved them all (Talon AWD, '95 S6, and '05 Legact GT). I also plan to get the APR programming at some point, which for $600 knocks the torque to 333 on the current A4. Awesome low-cost tuning option and you can now toggle back to factory settings w/ cruise control buttons. The tuning options on the 3.2 V6 seem fairly limited unless you were to bolt a supercharger on there ($$$).

I don't get the 2.0T engine combination with the A5.. seems incongruous to me. But I can understand Audi's decision is based upon marketing. My A5 S Line 6spd was $50K, making it a hard sell with 3.2 horsepower lower than a V6 Honda Accord, and BMW's offering way more performance at that price point. But still, I've owned an A4 with the little engine and it thrashes and screams out - a classic overachiever for sure, but seemingly out of character in the silky A5.

I've been pleasantly surprised with fuel consumption. My A4 2.0T was a gas hog, probably 'cause I couldn't help but keep my foot deep into that torque pocket it provided. My A5 spins along happily at 25 mpg.. not bad for a big car that I drive enthusiastically. Has Audi suddenly made the little engine more efficient?

Have you driven the new EA888 2.0T in the B8 A4? It has an entirely new block (and many other redesigned components), including integrated balance shafts, that result in a much smoother engine. Not as smooth as the 3.2 (and not quite as pleasant to the ear), but much improved nonetheless. (And the peak torque is MUCH improved over the previous 2.0T as well.)

I think you hit the nail on the head with the issue Audi has with the 3.2 - the 2.0T is getting close in performance and it is down on power compared to the competition. When the 3.0 SC engine is available in MY11 it is likely the 3.2 engine will be eliminated, just as with the A4. Sort of a shame since the 3.2 is so smooth and sounds wonderful, but the world seems to be moving in the direction of forced-induction engines.

Wow...zombie thread. Well, it was interesting to read the opinions from years ago. The 3.2 is long dead and the 2.0T is still going strong. I guess the 3.2 was just the odd engine out when the 2.0T became more powerful and refined. Personally, I can't see why anyone would choose an engine that makes less torque and uses more fuel, and has far less tunability than the 2.0T

And with the 8-speed transmission it's actually faster than the 3.2 (either manual or auto) even without the tuning.
