Default 2012 A5 Cab Voice Activation

Hi.. Brand new member here that just purchased his first Audi and a Vag-com. Can anyone please tell me the code to use to activate voice control for the phone and navigation. I have a 2012 A5 Cab premium plus, MMI3 with Navigation plus.

Welcome to the forum.

As for your question, perform a search under "Voice Command" and you will find several threads on this topic.

Is the solution still VCDS or has a simpler solution been found? I know vagcom is pretty simple but I dont have the system so I'm wondering if the activation is hidden somewhere.

There is no easier solution I'm aware of. VAG-COM/VCDS is very useful, and worth having around (or at least making friends with someone who has it).

FWIW, here's my step-by-step instructions on how to make this change, after slogging through about 10 different forum posts with varying versions of the procedure: http://sharding.org/blog/2011/02/02/...e-recognition/

Just opened my package from Ross Tech, downloaded the software, plugged in and tested the cable, followed the directions posted here and elsewhere...and now my S5 is complete. Piece of cake to activate (just make sure you read the command prompts, such as the "down arrow" to lock in changes). The frustrating part is the need to buy the VAG-COM in the first place. My most local dealer refused to turn on the voice recognition, citing the bogus fact that doing so would cause fault codes each and every time I take the car in for service. He claimed his service techs would turn it off to clear the codes - which is also bogus but even if true, you could turn it back on in about 30 seconds once you are familiar with the process. And for me this is also a safety issue - the less button pressing and dial spinning the better. Shame on Audi for making us jump through these hoops - but thanks to all the trailblazers who figured out the end-around for us newbies.

Hi, I fully want to do this also but is there a way to get a used cable or anything like that? $350 seems quite steep just to turn on voice activation, unless VAG COM is useful for other key items like this one?

I'm also against cellphone use of any kind in the car except for GPS. OEM GPS is a waste of money, especially the iPad-on-a-stick appearing versions on some cars. BMW charges a couple hundred to update it, I haven't even tried with Audi. Our 15A5 has it in the Prestige whatever edition leased, my daughter's leased A3 doesn't and she's perfectly happy with her Android GPS function.

Sooner or later OEMs are just going to delete/code the GPS function in favor of replicating the iPad or iPhone or Android screen in the car at worst. It's silly to duplicate GPS...unless the car can tell you where it is on your smart phone or tablet!
