This is what the Audi brand specialist told me today-

"In Audi's internal ordering system, they just posted the RS5 code's. So all colors and options are now in the system, the only thing that isn't posted is the pricing and exact definition of what some of the options include, but I have a good idea. I'm guessing pricing will be posted end of April early May. Also direct allocation will be based on customer order date so as of today RS5's are orderable."

A couple weeks ago my dealer in Chicago told me I could put $5k down on my purchase then and secure spot #1 in line, but I just can't do it without having a better idea of what it'll actually cost configured the way I'd want it.

I've seen enough mixed reviews (and having not driven one or seen one in person) I'm going to wait despite probably regretting it.

Since I had to choose, I'd rather regret not being the first to have an awesome car than regret my disappointment and eat a ton of depreciation. And I'm still driving around an S6 which doesn't suck at all.

I have a question. Won't the RS have essentially the same "type" engine as the current S5s (FSI)? If so, then won't they still have the carbon buildup issue potential as the current S5?

We're ignoring CB issue... just like Audi mostly does...

Here's a really dumb question... how does the RS5 get 100 extra hp out of the same engine (4.2L V8) without a supercharger/turbocharger?

Same thing they are doing with the S7 (420 hp) and the S8 (512 hp). Same V8 engine, but the S8 has more ponies than the S7. But interestingly, 100 hp more = 0.3 seconds faster.

Different cams, manifold, and headers. More robust piston composition.

More air in.
Bigger 'spolsions.
More air out.
Beefier components.

The RS4 came pretty well loaded with only minor options, mine was 73k sticker in 2007. But I haven't read much about major body and suspension differences between S5 and RS5 that the RS4 had over the S4 which were $$$ development. Anyone seen that? Apologies for my ignorance on the RS5, I had no idea of the RS4 detail until fully studied.

The biggest difference is between the high reving engines in the R/RS models and the rest. Someone will shortly point to the famous Audi technical brief for these very different FSI engines.
