Default Advance Keyless system - question

To those with the Advance Keyless option - my sales association told me that once in a while, I should plug the key in the keyhole to start the car instead of always pressing the 'start' button, because it may lose its battery power fast? Is this true? If so, how often do you plug the key in?

I was under the impression that they have disposable batteries. Read the manual. he may be confusing this with another model.

Your salesman is an idiot and doesn't know how to read (the manual).

Disposable batteries in the fob - I got the first 'replace key battery' warning last month on the main key. I switched the battery with the one in the second fob, and started getting the warning a cpl weeks ago too.

Took delivery of the car Nov '09, so almost two years worth on the first battery. I also have convenience open/close enabled and that takes more battery juice since you have to hold down the buttons to function.

They don't lose battery that fast. I bought my car 6 months ago and both key fobs were on their last breath. I bought a 5 pack of batteries on Amazon for $8 shipped. 6 months later and they are still going strong. I never use the in dash port to hold my keys.

My battery will be two years old in December and it still works fine.

Almost a year and no issues with my fobs. Tell your dealer to know their product better.....

Hogwash! Putting it in the slot does nothing to the power, these are NOT rechargeable batteries.

or at least understand their product? It would appear your salesman used to sell BMW and doesn't understand how Audi does it (with replaceable batteries). I for one am really tired of "know it all" salesmen who really don't know much of anything. They think just because they wear a nice suit we will believe whatever they tell us.

You said it. I have test driven many cars and find the majority of salesman are not proficient in the facts about the cars they sell. I just had this discussion with my friend. She is looking for a VW and had to correct the salesman on the incorrect specs he was quoting.

On the other hand, I had an Audi salesman who was once a race car driver and was also a mechanical engineering. He schooled me on many aspects of the Audi's drive train, which doesn't happen much. (I'm a mechanical engineer too).

Default Confused

The salesperson must be confused. Other brands (such as Infiniti) have (or had...mine was a 2006) a rechargable battery in the key fob and must be plugged into the port when the battery is low. AFAIK BMW, Audi, and MB all use disposable button batteries.
