ABS sensor in axle replacement????

ABS sensor in axle replacement????
I'm trying to R&R front axles on the 04 6MT, and I'm stumped by the need to pull the ABS sensor out a bit. Bolt that holds the bracket broke off and the housing won't budge.
Is it POSSIBLE to pull the axle paying particular attention to avoiding the axle touching the sensor?
If I do damage the sensor, can I still drive the car? I run a 200q20v with a damaged ABS sensor and my only problem is the warning light on the instrument cluster. Oh, and I don't have the stupid ABS. The AR, of course, also has the stability program and I don't know what a nonfunctional ABS sensor would do to that???
