Default AIR COMPRESOR PROBLEM... :(

HI,

I am almost happy owner of the 2002 AKE Allroad for about 6 months... 4 weeks ago for the first time I saw that my allroad is losing air pressure in the front right air spring. So I went to the Audi Dealer, they replaced it for "only" 800 EUR and everything looked okey.. but. I noticed that after that repair while normal driving and especially while accelerating the air compressor is active.
I went to Audi dealer once again... they were checking the car for two weeks and found that the rear air spring also have to be replaced for another 800 EUR.

I just received car and unfortunately the air compressor is still quite active while driving... I worry that it will burn off in few days. Dealer have checked car with VAG and didn't find any faults, they also checked the air system computer and "switcher" - and nothing.

I am loosing my mind with this car..., can you please confirm:

1. How often during normal drive your air compressor is active ? Is it active during the acceleration ? (of course I am not taking about changing the level or loading additional weight to the car).
2. If answer for the first question is - lets say never or very rarely - maybe you have got any idea what could be the source of the problem ?

Thank you very much in advance for your help

Default This is my fist winter with my 2001 ...

I've had it into my indy in Denver and they could find no leaks with with the bags, lines, or compressor. The amount of time the compressor runs has increased in the winter. Once the weather warms up in a few months I'll revisit the issue.

I have seen in other posts that the compressor tend to run more in the winter and that the air bags send to sag a bit more in the winter. I don't know how much science there is behind that, but with the compressor putting out 200 PSI, the air has to be getting pretty warm as it hits the system. The warm air is going to loose volume when it cools.

There are some folks on this forum that are looking at rebuilding the compressor. Mine is starting to get a little noisier (82K miles), but I'm assuming that is due to age. I'm anxious to see what they come up with since a new one is not cheap.

My best recommendation it to wait until it gets warmer so the cold weather aspect can be factored in or out.

Default Mine ususally runs for 20-30 seconds when I first drive it in the morning

and then maybe 5-10 seconds after it makes an adjustment. I've never noticed it coming on without making some sort of adjustment.

Default I'm keenly interested in the compressor rebuild topic

Mine makes a little noise now and then. I'd like to rebuild it now before it fails.

Default if have had mine since new and now at 142,000 miles...

The compressor will always come on moe in cold weather. This is why a tire has to be checked when the weather gets cold. The air becomes dense ane the pressure goes down.

The allroad will monitor the pressure in the storage tank as it gets low it will fill it via the compressor. Keep in mind that as you drive the system want to to keep level or go to pre determined settings which uses the air in the tank.

Thanks a lot for your kind help and answers.

As you recommended I will wait for a warmer days & will check the if the issue exist.
Additionally I hope that during next week I will have a chance to check how the air compressor in other allroads works. It will finally clarify my issue.

Same here. Since a new one installed is going to be $1K plus, this one has my attention.

But can you please confirm that during the normal / stable drive your compresor is switching on ?
Because in my allroad it works almost at every stronger acceleration or breaking ....

In Poland the service of the allroad is the real nightmare, nobody, even Audi dealer, Is able to diagnose the air suspension....they just can say that this is the standard work or the air suspension because the suspension have to adjust, - but constantly ???
