Default allroad rust

I recently purchased a 2001 allroad 2.7T with automatic transmission. The car has 109,000 miles. I noticed a couple areas where rust is starting to appear at the sill or bottom of the three tailgate windows under the trim. Is this a common problem?
Also, the car has the navigation system and XM radio with a short silver antenna, but the AM radio doesn't sound as good as on my other car. The FM sounds great.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Rust is not common.

AM radio (mine has sucked since New) If your not with in 10 mile of a station it's weak and with static. I have check antenna connections and have come to except that it's just a poor receiver.

You should include your geographic location, and a photo of the rust. It may help others prevent the same problem.

Mark.

If rust is in the tailgate you probably have blocked drain holes, cleaning them out will only help keep more water out, once the rust is visible it's too late......

Who listens to AM radio anymore?

Anyone know if the rust could be covered under the paint and corrosion?

Thank you for all the replies. I will have the guy, who also drives my car and uses the AM radio, take a picture of the rust. Also I know that the previous owner lived by the water - we're located in southern CT. No one else seems to have rust at the base of the three rear windows so maybe it was repainted improperly. Thanks again for getting back to me.

You need to tune into an AM station on HD Radio. Quite amazing. Kind of like listening to 96-128kbps mp3 and is quite shocking when you hear AM analog switching to digital once the HD tuner kicks in.

Thanks for the radio information.
I'm taking the AR to my friends body shop next week and will get his opinion on the rust spots. I'll let you know what he says.

None of us mentioned that the audi rust warranty is 12 years with no mile limit.

People have gotten their parts replaced with this.
it is worth a trip to the dealer just to file a claim and work it through.

I called the service dept. at our local Audi dealership and the rust warranty does not apply to surface rust. The warranty only covers complete perforations through the body sheet metal. FYI
