Allroad Tyres - the $64000 question !
The grinding never goes away. It's a product of a big, heavy car with wide tires and a torsion differential. Quattro, baby!
Running my tyres at around 38psi. I've also had the alignment checked so tyres are due for change after which I can monitor the tyre wear with the changes in place that ive made since buying the car.
thanks
Darren
I have the Hankook V12s on the RS6, they are really nice and very reasonably priced, but itsa high performance tire....not that good in the snow stuff....but the quattro makes up for it. I think the rest of their line-up of tires have a better than average reviews.
I've got Goodyears on there and only really need to replace 2. I reckon all 4 will pretty much wear down and I'll change the full set for a different brand when they all run down.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I've now got plenty of time to research !
Cheers
I've now had the 2 Goodyears replaced with new Wranglers for the time being, all wheels fully aligned etc.... and will run them at 40psi to see what mileage I can get out of them. Will report back.
For any UK owners, had 2 Goodyear Wranglers fitted plus an MOT for £297 all in, pleased with the price, happy to let you know where. I'm in Hertfordshire.
Cheers

I figure the car is heavy so I don't need such a soft, sticky tire. So far so good. No real issues in snow and they're great in the rain. At suspension level 1, the car handles as good as I can expect from it. And I've had very light AWD cars with super sticky tires in the past. I feel this tire is suited for our heavy allroads.

For my all season tires, I'm running Khumo Sinceras. They're fine so far (about 5000km on them.) I would like to get some steel rims for the winter tires I have.

Find another tire store. Only the 4.2 came with 18" rims, and even that model can accept 17" without issues.
The challenge in finding steel rims is the offset. Not too many cars out there use 25mm offset with 5x112 bolt pattern, in fact, the Allroad is the only one.
Just buy the steel rims based on the specs you need instead of choosing by model. You may have to run 10 mm spacers.
Or else get another set of authentic Allroad 17" rims from someone else or ebay.
