Default AR Replacement - A3.....Thoughts/Comments?

I really do not want to go with a Japanese cars since all I ever owned were German cars....I realize that all the problems with the AR were basically bad engineering....unless this was purposely designed this way....I want to give Audi a second chance and I am looking at an A3 6speed....any comments?......I am so desperate to replace my 2002 with now a new tranny...that I was actually (sigh) considering a CRV or a RAV4 just got get better MPG and AWD drive..sorry Subaru is out of the question........

Default Would have bought the TIP S-line DSG in a heartbeat but they were going to give me less than

nothing for my ar...it is a bit on the small size but doesn't drive as small as the A4 IMHO...loved the paddle shifters and the DSG is amazing...I hear the 6-speed actually gets pretty good mileage too...I thought you had to go to the S-line package before you got quattro and at the time I was looking they didn't have that combo in a manual (I wanted TIP anyway) but I would never buy an Audi without quattro...love the hatchback for getting briefcase and laptop bag out of the back in the garage or in tight parking spaces...not much room in the backseat but the seats are pretty comfy. If you don't need the space of the ar for stuff plus people it would be a good choice.

Default What are you looking for in the car? It depends on your priorities.

If you want space, then the A3 is smaller than people think, even though it's a sportback. If it's mileage, the 2.0 is much better than the allroad, but the 3.2 won't do it for you (it's only about 1 mpg better than the allroad). If it's the transmission, then the DSG is so much better than the tip so you can't go wrong with it. If it's quality, then German is German and there's nothing to do but live with the problems. I haven't had problems with my A3, but then I only have 5k miles on it. I haven't heard about any major issues in the A3 board, but there are consistent complaints about the Open Sky and other small things.

What is wrong with your allroad?

Default Re: What are you looking for in the car? It depends on your priorities.

I've had German cars all my life and I have never encountered a car as problematic as my AR, TC failure, Cam Seal leaking, CV and the Airshock failure all in one year?....the mileage is horrendous...I do not buy the AR Extended Warranty comment as a solution to what is a badly engineered car considering it's original price tag which is probably why there are so many on the market. In theory the car appears to be what I want since I got rid of my Jeep which had worse MPG but was more reliable. The A3 has less space and I can live with that since the car will be used primarily as a work vehicle
