Default AR vs ML-Class

I´m considering to buy a new car, and in my last short list are:

- AR 2.5 TDI
- ML-Class 270 CDI

Could anybody give me reasons to consider better the AR than the ML-Class.

I have not managed any of bouth cars, and I´have a lot of doubts.

Thanks a lot in advance

Default ML HUGE QUALITY PROBLEMS -- STAY AWAY

The ML has HUGE quality problems.
I would STRONGLY recommend against it.

Go to the page below for a list of owner-reported issues with this vehicle.
The ML320 page takes a LONG time to load because it is so LONG!

http://www.mercedesproblems.com/</a

Default Re: ML HUGE QUALITY PROBLEMS -- STAY AWAY

Let's see....

Vertical distortion problems in windshield
Paint problems on the rear hatch
45 MPH "wobble"
Headlights that sometimes won't come on
Dash indicator lights that sometimes won't go off
AM radioish-sounding stereo
Just to name a few...in a $50,000 car!

I think Audi has its share of quality problems, too.

We recently traded our '98 ML320 in for an '01 allroad quattro and we are thrilled with the Audi. We loved our ML320. It was a nice vehicle and it was a great SUV. However, the ML320 was very trucklike (body on frame construction). For an SUV, the ML320 compares quite nicely with other truck based SUV's. For our needs, the allroad is a much better fit. We enjoy having an all-wheel drive vehicle during the winter months, but we don't really need a full blown SUV. The fit and finish of the allroad is fantastic compared to most European luxury cars let alone SUV's. My wife and I love the handling characteristics of the allroad much more than the ML320. The acceleration, handling, and overall performance of the allroad are fantastic. We also feel that we have much more usable cargo space in the allroad than in the ML320. I would highly recommend purchasing an allroad.

Default ...yes, but Audi doesn't have a whole site dedicated to problems with their vehicles

featuring hundreds of similar sounds posts from disgruntled owners who tell the story again and again that MB doesn't care about its clients.

Default If you're interested in performance get the allroad

I've never actually driven the mercedes SUV, but there is a silver ML 430 (or whatever their big number is) in my area that I have crushed repeatedly. So far I've found him on city streets, freeway, and a small mountain road. Although he is aggressive and drives alright, all he ever sees is my twin tailpipes! (I think he's getting pissed)

Default Somehow someone buying the TDI allroad isn't looking for the total road rocket !

You must be not in the US given the diesel motors you are looking at.

Audi has a strong reputation in TDI engines and the allroad is certainly a fine car, beautifully designed and built. The ML's have some quality problems though I'm not sure if the Diesel ones are built in the USA or in Europe so that could be a different issue.

Obviously asking this question here you are going to get most people say buy the allroad, I certainly would suggest that but in the end you should try and drive them both and make your own choice.

These boards and the Intenet in general are great sources of information but it's either people that love their cars or hate them that post, most are just in the middle !
