Cat Problems

HAving trouble with the cats on my '02 Allroad 2.7 , 6 speed Bi-turbo. Mechanic scanned it and it came up 421 and 431. Now , apparently, the only aftermarket cats, reasonably priced are for an automatic tranny.(????) does this make sense? We checked the dealer and they want around a thousand a piece.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Get yourself a set of Piggie pipes from vastperformance.com, these are stock cats with gutted pre-cats and relocated o2 sensors. You will gain a bit performance and the check light will be gone.

Not sure if this info will be useful to you, but I had a bad cat that kept giving me a check engine light. I went and had it replaced at an indy shop, and I still had the same problem. I later discovered that they used an aftermarket cat...so I had them replace it with an OEM part. I had no problem after that...and both the aftermarket and the OEM cost about $1,100.

did you know you cats ar guranteed for 8/80 from the date of purchase regadless of the number of owners. How many miles on your ride? is it less than 8 years? even 1 day less works.

By 8/80 you mean 8 years or 80k miles? My '02 had 135k at the time.

correct..EPA major component coverage is 8 years or 80k miles. It covers the cats and the ECU/OBD only.
