Compass mirror installed....
Did it in about 10 minutes this morning before coming to work. Would've been quicker, but my hands were shaking after "spiderweb" warnings from Arnzo and ragtag.
Old mirror came off with a little effort, but I had the same problem as Jim S. with the clip in the new one which felt smaller and was clearly putting strain on the windshield. I did the same as Jim and fitted clip from the old mirror in the new one and it went on fairly easily after that.
Thanks to everyone who posted on this subject earlier. Your experiences probably saved me from making an expensive mistake. Revered future spouse thought I was crazy buying the new mirror at all and when I told her I was still going ahead with the installation after hearing about the cracked windshields.... well, you can imagine her reaction!
