Dead Display Pixels

Has anyone tried to repair the dead pixel problem on the display?

I'm wondering if there are any cautions or side effects to pulling out the instrument cluster...

Do you have to disconnect the battery, will the radio lock up, etc...

I'm pretty good with a soldering iorn is this something I could tackel myself? How hard is it to get the display out and apart.

Is there an after market display or a repair shop for these?

i have seen a write up somewhere so that you can do it yourself
its not too bad from what i remember, the problem is sourcing the parts.

I pulled the display out of the car... very easy, just two screws holding it in. With the help of 8 small screwdrivers I was able to open the display cluster and remove the PC board from the housing. I popped the steel display fram off revealing the ribbon cable that feeds the display from the side. That Ribbion runs from the display down to the board and connects under the speedo.

I'm thinking that if a repair shop charges $150.00 they are earning their money... I'm just going to send it out.
