Default Differences between the years?

Hi, new to the forum and im trying to buy a pre owned allroad. I was wondering if there was a comprehensive list of differences between the years of allroads. They look the same to me, but obviously, they must have improved on it throughout its life span. Also would like advice on what to look out for, right now ive researched that the timing belt replacement should be done around 80k but what else should I be looking out for? thanks!

I guess I can not edit myself so ill just post again, was there a diesel version available in the states? It says on wikipedia that in 04, there was a diesel version available for a short period of time? wondering if that actually is true and some diesels do exist in north america market or if that fell through?

It seems as if the early model cars had a few nicer options...

But you could only get the V8 in a late model car...

I'm sure there are a few diesel allroads in the US; brought in privately by (wealthy) owners. I've never seen one myself though...

No they're not. You can't legally import a car that has not EPA approved engine. As such, you cannot register it either.

Theoretically you could legalize such a car but it would cost you insane amount of money... to give you a hint: if a manufacturer doesn't spend money to make it legal then their cost/profit ratio just doesn't work for that option.

I believe you could import such a thing for off road use, but what's the point.

You could import a diesel engine and depending on the state swap it, I know a couple of guys did it on a Vw passat on one of the turbo diesel forums, they put the 2.5td engine but it's not a simple motor swap.

In other words, there was no diesel Allroad brought to North America from Audi.

We're not even sure if anyone had a custom AR with TDI, likely not.

allroadfaq.com has some good information on option differences between model years. Apart from mechanical improvements, the only thing that I am aware of is the change to the BEL engine in the later years (and I don't know if that is considered an improvement) and the upgraded torque converter on the automatic starting in .. 2004??
