Engine Code Question...
However, today when pulling the Y-pipe to do some work, I noticed that the code "stamped" on the motor was APB (again see pics).
The obvious answer, to these two contradicting codes is, that another engine was put into this chassis and the label indicates the code of the original motor.
By the way, I bought this car about 3 years ago and had no indication that a motor swap was done.
I however, was wondering if anyone has run across this before, with no engine swap being done?
Were there cross over years, wherein these two codes/motors were used interchangeably?
Hasn't been an issue so far, for parts and maintenance.
More a curiosity question at this point, since I just discovered the discrepancy today.
Thanks
1. If there are 2 little computer chips mounted on the airbox with cables running into and out of them, you definitely have an APB engine.
2. If you decide to change coil packs, the APB coil packs bolt to the cam covers, the BEL engine coil packs are push-in.
Other than that, most everything else should be the same.
Air box is clean...no chips mounted, and the coil packs are "push-in" types.
So I'll go with BEL parts, when ordering or working on the car.
Thanks again for the input!!
From time to time I see this on higher mileage Audi cars, where someone has changed the motor or head(s)
