Default Height adjustment

I just dicover my 15,000 miles Allroad would automaticlly raise itself to the second height after freeway driving.

Height control is set to Automatic mode (the yellow manual light is off). Before getting on to the freeway, I set the car at the lowest height, but after running on freeway for a while, as soon as the car stop on a light, it will raise itself to the second height setting. Does this happen to your 2001 Allroad too?

According to AoA, they said its normal on 2001, for best handling and fuel consumption purpose! I though the car is best handle and fuel consumption when its at the lowest setting? Any help will be appreciated.

I think that most of us (except for one notorious individual who likes to play with his VAG-tool) have learned to live with it.

These are air springs, and they're actually a little firmer on setting 2 than 1 (think tall & thin with more pressure vs. short and squat with less pressure).

In the '01s, you can use the manual mode to defeat some of this automatic behavior, although it will lower itself out of 4 & 3 if you exceed the pre-set speeds. Also, that yellow light gets annoying. HPH

I have found no difference in handling at the track between level 1 and 2. I always keep it in level 1 on the street because I think it looks better. My '02 will always try to go back to the last setting you gave it. In other words, set it to level 1 and it will stay there forever, set to level 2 and it will lowel to level 1 at speeds over 70 or so and then go back to level 2 when speeds drop, set to level 3 and it will lower to level 2 then 1 according to speed then go back to level 3 when speed drops. It will not return to level 4 if you set it there and go past 20 or so.

Default I've had my 02 on Level 2 for a couple weeks

I find the steering is firmer and the damping is a bit firmer as well at lower speeds. My summary:
1 - boulevard/freeway cruisin' (and looking cool)
2 - Commuting/carving the turns
3 - More spirited city driving
4 - Who needs snowplows?
