I had to replace my wiper motor and rack because it seized. To do this required removing the ECU and box. I disconnected the battery, unplugged the ECU and set aside while I did the wiper fix. Put it all back together and re-connected the battery. Car cranks but engine will not fire up. What gives?
Thanks very much for your quick reply. You are correct, I only re-plugged 4 of the 5 connectors from the ECU into the terminal block that leads into the car. Once all 5 were plugged in, the car started - amazing.

On the topic of wiper rack seizures, I've found that they can ofter be repaired without needing to be replaced. The first one that I fixed was on my wife's old B6 A4. Since then I've done the same to 2 C5's and 1 other B6. I found that, for some reason, certain racks are susceptible to getting corrosion on the pivot pins for the wipers. Eventually this can cause them to seize. If you disassemble, remove the corrosion, clean up all the bare metal components, and re-grease, you'll be set for the remainder of the life of the car.
On the other hand, if the motor is causing the issue, the fix is obviously different. Just an FYI for future searches.
Agreed on wiper rack seizures, provided ones catches the problem early. My wipers were getting noticeably slower and had I taken out the rack and cleaned and lubed the pivot pins then, I think it could have been repaired. Unfortunately, I waited until the wipers stopped. When I took out the rack, one of the pivot pins had seized so badly that I broke the rack mounting flange while trying disassemble. Since I was ordering a new rack, I also bought a new motor because I did not want to take it all apart again if the motor had burned out as well.
Lesson learned: when something is not working properly, waiting until it breaks completely is not the way to go.
