Looking at ARs

Looking at ARs
I'm looking (just started, no huge hurry) at getting an AR and have some questions in no particular order;
1) Can the stereo easily be changed out for a new double din type (with amps)? I had a Caddy CTS-V with a factory Nav unit and had quite the problem changing the stereo!
2) Is it worth waiting/paying for a 4.2?
3) I live in the North SF Bay Area and the prices seem to be higher than what I am reading on this site. What should I look to pay for a low mileage 03 or 04?
4) Are the flares painted on some models or is that aftermarket/custom?
5) Who is Bruce M?
6) How much is a after-market extended warrenty? and how long are they good for?
7) What years/models had manual trannys?
8) Anything besides the front airbags to look out for?
9) I want a leather interior, are there different levels of interior trim?
Thanks for any input, Eric.

1You'll need to run new wire to the speakers and you'll lose the display section in the cluster for
radio info. Full body paint is an option. Most will have leather, only the 2.7 has a manny. allroadfaq.com is a good source for the rest.

allroadfaq.com

Wow, cool, I am now the answer to an Allroad forum trivia question! :) See inside.
Eric, good questions all. I am a guy that provides warranties and finds Allroads for people. Email me if you need help with either.
I happen to have a mint 2005 4.2 right now I am selling. It's on the expensive side, but worth it.
But I can get you a different one, carefully selected and inspected. And I can provide a warranty ranging from one year of engine protection all the way to five years of bumper-to-bumper protection. Term, coverage, and cost depends on the particulars of the Allroad (year, engine, mileage, etc).
So if you'd like help with a warranty or getting an Allroad, just let me know.
Good luck on the hunt, they are great cars. You just need to have both eyes open and choose one carefully.

They are definitely more expensive in California....
I bought my 4.2 2005 in March locally (Norcal) and was pretty frustrated at how much higher the prices were here. I nearly bought a 2004 4.2 on Ebay from Alabama and had it shipped, but ultimately decided to buy locally because I needed to have the leverage to be able to trade in my existing car. Good luck.

All, Thanks for the info, I have contacted Bruce M. and I am on the hunt! Who wants a 96k mileage Expedition with loud off-road tires and scratched paint from kayaks and camping!
Eric.
