Default Click....click.....click

I'm hoping someone else had this problem, diagnostics is killer on the card, when the dealership has not a clue either.

Default It's the turn signal relay, which is the entire $25 assembly behind the

emergebcy flasher button. STFA's it's one of the most reported failures in an Audi.

Default The conventional answer is

If it does a fast click when you're trying to signal, it's the hazard (& turn signal) relay. If it does it when you're not trying to signal, it's the turn signal stalk.

The hazard relay is pretty easy DIY. The turn signal stalk is harder and riskier due to the fragility and expense of the clockspring connector in the steering wheel. Also, whether it's the original hazard relay or not, it is a failure-prone part, so if in doubt, try replacing it first -- you'll probably have to eventually anyway. The newer hazard relays contain different parts and are reputedly more reliable.

Default Also, original relays just failed with a brief signal and then nothing. The fast click

is popular.

On the stalk assembly, ours did the phantom clicking for a few weeks around Thanksgiving 2006 and then stopped (crosses fingers, says small prayer, whirls chicken around above head). Try waiting a while and see what happens is my advice!

Default gamble 25.00 and 10 minutes of your own time...

get a new hazard switch from a dealer and put it in yourself.

Default If the stalk switch is back, and if the clicking continues or happens randomly, a

new relay might actually sound worse. Some have posted that the new style relays make a crazy fast beat instead of a slow clickity-click when the signal stalk goes bad. It's worth testing the new relay for efficacy before putting the trim all back together, in case the problem persists or sounds worse due to the stalk actually being the root cause. Then, you can use the new relay later after fixing the stalk.

Default Yep, that was my experience exactly.

Also, changing the hazard relay turned into a sporadic multi-day affair for me after having some of the retaining clips on the trim panel break off (due to manufacturing defect, not lack of care in removal). I'd glue one back on, let it dry, install it, and then have another one break off. But that's apparently not a typical experience.
