Default Need input

New member to the fourm but have owned Audi's for years. Currently have a problem with an '03 allroad. When I purchased it I was told the rotors and brake pads had been replaced due to NY inspection. It has 47k on it by the way and is the 2.7t. Anyway, on the way back home I pressed the brake and the dash went haywire. The ESP, height-level and ABS indicators all lit up. After reading the owner's manual, I was reassured that it likely is not 3 separate problems but rather one that links all of them together. I reset the code and continued my way back home, but it still happens on occassion. Mechanic says they can't replicate the problem and the trouble codes don't help. Before I go to the dealer, I'd like some input. Some other things I've noticed is that the brake light sometimes doesn't work and the car has yet to adjust its height based on speed. The brakes work just fine, it's just that every now and then a simple use of the brake will cause all three warning lights to go on. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Default You might want to find another mechanic. Have you tried posting in the appropriate ...

... regional forum for indy recommendations?

Default you may find tht the brake pedal switch is shot.

25.00 to replace it and its easy to do it yourself.

You are in NY? Where? I know a few good shops in the NYC and LI area.

Default Re: What is the trouble code ?

thanks for the input on this, I checked the thread that was offered and it did seem to discuss the same symptoms but unfortunately I recently DID have the brake light switch replaced with no difference,
I purchased the car in NY and drove it back to my home in Greenville, SC
I can't recall what the code were but the mech said the code didn't really help, it boiled down to one of those deals that until it happens to them in their possession they can't do a whole lot, as far as I know, there are only two options I have, either the dealer or this shop, the indy is much cheaper but not terribly convenient, I don't care to drive all the way over to them on and off again and NOT have the problem solved
Another thing is that the brake lights only seem to come on when the pedal is pressed about half-way down which I'm not crazy about, I'm hoping this is not normal

Paulroad (cool name btw), is the brake pedal switch one and the same as the brake light switch?

I don't think that is normal. Maybe got a wrong one, or something wrong in the installation ?

Default It sounds like they botch the switch replacement. 2 thing you need to be sure of..1 the new switch

has 4 prongs in the connector. 2 they, or you, set the plunger correctly. You may be able to salvage the switch that is in the car now but if it was set incorrectly it could be broken. IIRC to remove the switch you just turn it 1/4 turn, this releases it from the mount and it also unlocks the plunger settings. Once unlocked, pull the plunger out as far as it will go and replace the switch but DO NOT twist it in place yet. Pull the brake pedal firmly towards the rear of the car (opposite of applying the brake) while holding the switch in position but still unlocked. Now twist the switch into place and you should be calibrated. A new switch will run about 30 bucks at the dealer and they should not charge more than a half hour labor. Dealers vary though and it is a pretty easy DIY.

I'm charged only an hour for the installation and by the way people have talked on this forum, an hour sounds high so I would hope they didn't mess that up
I've not fiddled with the brake light switch before, is it easy to find, is there a resource on this site I could use, sorry to be such a newbie, haven't needed to fiddle with this part before on any of my cars
