Never give up....it just so happened that I know for a fact that a good Friend has a 2.7 engine block laying around (he installed an ASJ engine), parts are been taken off slowly but the main parts of the engine are still in one piece.
If you are interested, I can ask him if he is willing to depart for a reasonable budget, but I'm very sure he will.
Let me know, I'd bring to any place of destination personally, no shipping needed.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves
car did not sound like a bucket of loose bolts after the "pop" and there is no oil leaking. I'm hoping it may be clutch/flywheel related, but that may just be wishful thinking.
It may come to that, and I do appreciate the offer. I'll probably get a chance tomorrow to at least see if I can turn the crank with a ratchet.
