Default Performance chips

I have just traded my Cayenne for an 04 allroad. Obviously I am losing some HP. Does Audi recognize any aftermarket chip manufacture to enhance preformance?

thanks

Default Not in U.S. You can get more power, but you risk warranty.

But having said that, your new Allroad should be faster than the Cayenne due to much lower weight.

Default Just curious -- why the trade?

I was interested in the Toureg when it came out -- it promised to be very appealing in many ways. Then I found out it can weigh as much as 5400 pounds, and presumably the Cayenne is similar. It seems to me to be alot of wasteful extra mass. At leat 1000 lbs worth of extra metal, etc, extra fuel required to move it. I would have expected a sports car manufacturer like Porsche to be aware of weight as an issue (in speed and handling), but I guess adding 500 hp is the easy way out. As Colin Chapman once said, "add lightness".

Somewhere in there is a reason I decided on an allroad...

I like the Cayenne S, and am a Porsche biggot but somehow it just didn't do it for me. at over 60k w/o air suspension it is fast but not faster than an allroad. It is heavy and has lag when down shifting if not using the Tip. Which BTW is the TIP used by Audi. My wife absolutely hates the car, she hates it's looks, its ride and having to answer peoples questions. We are having our first child and I needed to get our car expenses a little better under control and still have a car that was reasonably fun to drive ( I would have liked to get an S6, but alas, Audi killed that)and matched our very very active outdoor life style. I might regret it later but now I am happy with the choice. All that said, if Audi introduced an RS6 Avant, I would be one of the very first new owners. Hope that helps.

6 speed the lag on the Tip is a little more than I can deal with coming from the C-S and other high performance vehicles. No offense if you have the TIP

Default real answer....

I've had my APR for 5 weeks...two programs 93 OCt and Stock. Granted, there is no direct port for the allroad, so min is soldered in. Chastity belt replaced, breakaway crews installed. If you hook up a vag the ECU reads completely stock. If for some reason you have to have your ECU re flashed like the recent ar recall, then you have a problem. It can't be reflashed as the APR is an encrypted chip. So as long as you watch for the need to reflash... and swich to stock for the dealer vist.. you should be fine.

Default They don't recognize the IBE switch because it has a seperate chip and socket.............

If the dealer has to perform a recall, etc, the IBE Chipped ECU will let it upload and not get the still checking message.

This is an advantage over APR and why I am going to go that route.

If you have any questions e-mail me and I can give you a GIAC contact that can explain it in much more depth.
