The new Audi Phat box is a 20gb hard drive that you down load music into. INtegrates with factory radio.

I bought a 50 stack of cd-r after rebate was $4. 80min each. Thats 66.6 hours of music. Granted its not a phatbox, but that thing is expensive.
Anybody have a Phatbox?

I can't give it an unqualified recommendation because it's somewhat cumbersome to navigate through a large collection and I would like track information displayed instead of spoken. But these are limitations of Audi, not PhatNoise. I think the PhatBox inteface is well conceived given the constraints of only a CD changer interface and no text feedback.
But I don't regret for a second that I bought it. It's well worth it to have all of my music available to me with an interface that is integrated into the OEM controls and doesn't require me to take my eyes off the road.
BTW, it's not "voice activated". It has spoken prompts but can't be controlled by voice.

PhatBox rules!
I got one a couple years ago (Limited Edition, beta test version). I've been through all the software and firmware upgrades. They've come a long way, and given the limited interface provided by the Audi head unit, I think they've done an absolutely spectacular job! I paid $899 for mine, and I thought it was a bargain at the time (even now, there are very limited options for carrying around 300+ CDs worth of music, especially using the stock headunit). Plus I had to make my own bracket (what a pain in the butt!) At $699 plus $15 for the bracket, I don't see how I could buy another Audi or VW and NOT get a Phatbox.

Not the Audi Controls.
But the reach to the IPOD is the same as the Audi head unit so for all intents it's the same.
I like the Phatbox. I chose the IPOD becase I can move it from car to car, use it in the house, use it to back up files on my PC and take into the gym.
