Problem solved: Rough running engine
After having continuous misfire error scans (on #5) even after changing the coil pack and switching the ignition modules ('01), I ran out yesterday and found a shop that would sell me one NGK Double Laser Platinum plug ($tealer wanted $23 - got it for $10). Woke up this mornig and got under the hood at 5:30am (damn engine was still warm even with leaving the hood cracked open outside). The old plug was not seated and was a three full rotations loose. When I pulled it out and to my surprise, the bottom of the plug was missing.... Lesson learn, next time I'll start from the bottom of the problem and work back.
New plug is in and I'm looking for the 530 that spanked me yesterday on the way into Boston.

Congratulations on the fix. Long time ago I mentioned plugs on the recommendation from a mechanic friend of mine. He told me when I went through a similar problem "Always start with the plugs".

Glad you sorted your problem but it does beg the inevitable question...
Where has the missing part of the plug gone? Has it failed all at once resulting in 'big chunks' or is a spark errosion king of thing resulting in 'little chuncks'? I'm just thinking of all the expensive parts downstream and the implications for them.
