quick question....
looking into buying an allroad and the one i keep eyeing seems to be optioned out except for xenons. now i'm not sure if this is a typo (internet car site), but my question is; how hard would it be to switch from hals to xenons?

check the model guide...
Xenons were part of a package of options, IIRC. You can find that info in the AW Model Guide. If you see the rest of the package elements listed, you're good. Be sure to check the particular model year, since packages changed a bit from year to year.

I believe it is doable but you'd need different headlights.
Might be a job for a hobbyist.
If the shape, plug and internal wiring is the same for the xenon and halogen headlights, maybe it is plug and play. If not.... have more or less work to do.
I recently did this on my 01 passat, it took about 5 months, $350 and I got parts from 5-6 different sources.
