Radar/laser detector recommendations for 1st time buyer?
Ready to buy my first.
Any recommendations?
Links to recent reviews and legal use states?
Personal preferences or experiences?
Jammers? Laser shifters? Radar detector-detectors?

I love my Valentine1
It has saved my bacon many times. The directional indication has proven valuable several times. Their service has been outstanding. Expensive, but worth it, to me.

ONE WORD NEEDED: VALENTINE
...and don't buy used! You want the latest model, with warranty (we have 2, and have used the warranty on BOTH)
Can only buy them online, see below.

http://www.valentine1.com</a

Valentine1. Buy new or check ebay. The older ones are a tad bit larger
than the current ones but work 99.9% as well as the current one and 100x's better than anything else.
Any other detector is a complete waste of money. I've had my valentine for about 6 years, previously having products from Passport/Escort (Mike Valentine developed the original Escort radar detector).
Absolutely no question in the world this is the only detector to buy. I also recommend the remote display unit.

passport 8500 has saved my (_|_) a few times...
no complaints here... arrows or no arrows, I heighten my awareness when this puppy goes off... virtually no false alerts. shutting off the X band really helps for that (no beeps for stores and banks) and since I have a bro that is a state trooper and I teach them also, I know X band is very very rarely used now a days. mostly photo, lazer, and Ka. (in that order around here)
What you REALLY need is a BCT-12 scanner that also has news and weather band... great little scanner that you can hardwire in tandom with your detector...
