Rear Diff problems..
nop, it hasnt been checked! i have checked the drive shaft for movement and there is quite alot of transverse movement but my machanic said its normal.
is it easy to check the carrier? i know its hiden by the heat shild and exhaust. is it a big job to remove them to see if its the carrier??
thanks
richardo
Good Luck with your transmission specialist Richardo. Please let us know if he comes up wit any explainations. I have brought mine to an audi dealer who was not able to idendify the problem at first but now wants to book it in for further diognostics.
I hope its nothing too major as I've also just replaced the two front airbags with Arnotts replacemnts. Very pleased with those so far. I would recomend them. They came with very clear instructions and I had them fitted in 3 hours or so. ( Alot cheaper than the dealer).
thanks for that dave the last time i checked the drive shaft i was able to move it about 10mm. could see it moving in and out of the rear diff, which is brand new, the diff that is.

i will try that to see if i can make it thud with eps off.
u are right the thud comes with a sharp down shift. driving the car in traffic is a nightmare as each time u take ur foot on and off the accel. pedal i can feel some thing hitting something else. feels like something is realy loose in the transmission!!

thanks for that. going to the transmission guy on tuesday and going to get him to check the rear of the car first and he if finds nothing strange there me thinks it could be very expensive :-( did u change the shocks as well as the bags?

I have same problem with my car, Allroad 2001 2.5 tdi 180PS manual.127 kmls
So far i have changed: gearbox mounts, rear diff front rubber mount, engine front mount(rubber bumper), front left inner CV joint(nothing was wrong with it, lol. :-) ) and now ... clutch with the dualmass flywell.. And still I have same symtomps. When car its cold its not that bad, but after half an hour driving it;s geting very annoying...
When i got under the car, looking at center bearing(driveshaft) rubber its fine but is very soft, I could push up drivshaft and then i heard noise (thump).
I can't wait what your transmission guy will say..
Good luck
