Thoughts on ESP
There are extensive posts on the A6 forum regarding the dangers of ESP in icy conditions. Here in Minneapolis with sub zero conditions light snow and black ice it was a perfect day to test ESP. It is amazing. It is easy to see why it was banned from racing. It is very hard to get the car to go off line. Driving too aggressively for conditions I was able to engage the ESP frequently. Applying the gas and steering where I wanted to go, the car always went there even in obvious glare ice conditions. I do have Michelin Alpin Pilots on the car. I am not dumb enough to try this with stock tires. The ultimate test is turning onto my street. It's a 270 degree right turn to a steep hill. It is guaranteed to cause the tail to swing out wide but the ESP worked hard to keep the car on line slipping only slightly.
