Tip problem
Just gave my 2005 2.7 tip a big drink & she flew like the wind.
No problem.
Just after this when I came into traffic & the tip changed down the transmission stuck in first & wouldn't change up no matter how high the revs. (well - almost. I didn't red line it as it's only done 5K km but I'm sure you agree it's not normal.)
Didn't have this problem with my last Audi turbo tip or BMW autos but we have had the same problem with my wife's VW auto transmission.
The tranny switch (IMHO) is one of the weak points within this design, 2 or 3mm off the adjustment can cause severe problems.
My car is running it's 3rd Tranny switch, so no surprise here.
If the switch is off it's alignment then it will send incorrect data to the TCM. The TCM will then respond with very much the behavior you've encoutered...or similar.
Good Luck...I guess with 5K KM you should be still covered under Warranty ;-)
If I had to guess then I'd say the cause is apperently Software; simply because your car didn't throw itself into Limp mode. At least that should be an expected scenario.
The car remained in first gear - so no information flow towards the TCM and therefore the TCM coulnd't reply appropriately by responding with next/2nd gear or Limp mode. Does that make sense?
But I could be wrong all the way.....
