Torque converter
If one needed to replace his torque converter, what are the best sources. Audi wants ***waaaayyyy*** to much for one--I'd be a third of the way to a remanufactured tranny for what they would charge. I've seen prices from $250 to $800, any recommended sources. I don't actually need to replace mine yet, but from the 3 other allroad owners I've met they all tell me to start budgeting for it and the airbags now. I've called around and labor seems to in the $800-$1000 range (unless you go to the dealer, they say $1600-$2000).

re DIY: if you are planning to DIY a write-up would be golden...
The Benlty shows the TqC replacement by pulling the engine, but it sound like most shops just drop the tranny. I'm sure a write up for a TqC replacement would help tons of people on this board...

You're dreaming if you think labor is $800-$1000
You have to drop the tranny, definitely not the engine. You're looking at 10 hours labor, minimum, probably closer to 12-14. Not sure where you live, but where I live, labor averages around $135 per hour at Indys (Dealer is $165), so you do the math. Price for the oem TC is going to run you roughly $900-$1000. If you can get the job done parts and labor for less than $2,500 I'd be very very surprised, probably looking at $3,000 on average.

Where in Iowa is an Indy $45 that would even know how to spell Audi? I have found the
most reasonable Indy with any knowledge of this car at all is $65 an hour and the dealer I have used in the past I wouldn't let touch my car again....where are you located in Iowa...I don't see many (if any) allroads in Central Iowa. Just wondered, trust me not stalking
