Default Trailer wiring/connector

Do ALL C5 Allroads (2001-2005 or so) have the tailer wiring plug (13 pin)?
I can't seemed to find the wire/plug (normally on driver side, tugged into the bumper)?
Or do I have to look somewhere else maybe?

I thought they all did but I'm not positive. Mine is just about dead center under the rear bumper and looks like this.

The harness was not on the 2001s and possibly not on early 2002s. Came on the rest.

I purchased a 13-pin to standard 4-pin adaptor. How the heck do you gain access to that thing?

Which hitch do you have? On all hitches except for the Curt hitch the connector is relocated to a swing down bracket which allows it to be repositioned below the bumper cover so you can plug the adapter in.

I think what was asked, and what I'm asking: how you you get that off to relocate it where you CAN access it. (I have the Curt hitch)

The connector is mounted to a steel plate that is held on to the bumper beam with two rivets. You can drill out the rivets to remove the plate, then the connector can be removed from the plate with 3 screws. Generally this is done with the bumper cover removed while installing a non Curt hitch, so I'm not sure if it is possible to drill out the rivets with the cover in place.

Is your Curt already mounted? If not, do yourself and future owners a favor and get one of Justin's really strong (good as OEM) hitches. You have to pull the bumper cover, then you can deal with the connector if you're using your 2002 Allroad. If you're using your 2001, you have to add the whole wiring harness for trailer electrics.

Whatever you do, make sure your compressor stays in good condition. A weak compressor and a trailer can result in a blown suspension control module.

I'm not sure what the OP has, but I'm putting a Curt on my '03. Yeah, the other hitch you mention is nice, but costs more than I want to spend, and as a 2" class III is a bit of overkill for my uses. The Curt (1-1/4" Class II) is cheap, and while I'm not a huge fan of the mounting scheme, it will be sufficient for the lightweight trailer camper trailer I tow (1200lbs loaded).

Oh yeah, my compressor is probably a little weak. Thanks for the heads up, I didn't think about that.... Probably time to get in touch with bagpipingandy.

I've been considering replacing the stock compressor with a Viair, but thats for another thread.
