I want to reinforce the often-expressed view (especially on the A6 Forum) that it's a good idea to change the Tip transmission's fluid.
Now that I'm over 50K miles and have to pay for service, I'm going to an independent shop. It's not cheaper, but it's closer and I figure the money's going to a better cause. And they have an Audi master technician and all the gear the dealer's service shop has.
Yesterday, in the followup discussion to my 60K service (which, for those of you anticipating it, costs a bundle), both the service advisor and the tech talked to me about getting the transmission done between now and 75K miles. They not only change the fluid, they also clean it out -- the filter and the magnet that catches particles in there.
Audi dealers won't do this unless you really force the issue, because Audi claims the Tip transmission fluid is lifetime. Right. HPH

Automotive Resources, on 6th...
...in the first block north of St. Michaels (between the Sonic and the Green Onion). They're not cheap, but they're good. In addition to the usual 60K laundry list (a long one) they replaced the rear diff fluid and balanced and rotated the tires. I also had them put on my H-sport bars. HPH
