Default WTF??

Hey guys,
We took our '03 AR in for some issues that we found after we purchased it. Mostly minor things like car pulled to the right and the car shuttered when braking, one tail light seemed brighter than the other and the back light on the dash for the head lights wasn't working.

I just spoke to the service director and he said that there seems to be an electrical issue and they can't seem to narrow it down. We asked what the problem was and he said the he did not know but they may have to fly an Audi tech out to investigate it if they cannot resolve it and that the car wasn't safe to drive. Okay, we just drove the car from where we bought it to our home, over 150 miles. What could be so life threatening?

What do you all think?

Default I think it he tells you its not safe to drive...

and its still under warranty, then you tell him to give you a car that is safe to drive while he fixes your ar.

Default no idea, the tail light may be as simple as being the wrong bulb

there's a bulb that is nearly identical, fits, is like 1 number off in the model number, and will show the brake light when not braking while lighting the plain tail light while braking

only know that because I did it myself last fall

Have the dealer refund your money and find another car

Default first off, you have a good service dept.

Second, Audi is carefull with electrical due to the prev. recall on the A6 and Allroad. There was a danger (a few happened) of an electricasl fire under the dash casued by rubbing of a metal edge on a harness.

That being said, you have a dealer who is wise and is calling in the big guns to fix it.

I would start the ball rolling to get a refund ASAP. Cal AoA, speak to customer care and spek to the man who OWNS this dealership.

By your oist I assume its used and you bought it from an Audi shop with CPO? If so then they did not inspect it very well and perhaps this is good and polite ammunition to uise with the owner.

Default Find out what triggered the dealer's concern about the electrics

Did it throw a code? Spark? Short? Fire? Etc.

Default I'd request a loaner. Then.......

see what the problem is. It is possible that the problems they are attempting to resolve are"known" issues. In the process of repair the dealership has been requested to contact Audi. Audi in turn has said "We're concerned about what's going on here. We are sending out a higher level technician to investigate this."
If you're covered by warranty let Audi try to resolve the problems instead of getting in a pissing contest with everyone.

Just my 2 cents worth.
Good luck.

I do have a loaner for now, a sewing machine; I mean an A4 4-banger.

I write to you all because I am a little freaked out and need to know if this is a common issue.

Default I understand your apprehension.

I try to keep it all in perspective. I doubt that 10% of all allroad owners are on this site. I have an '01 with 90k miles on it. I bought it in June with 86K on it. I really enjoy it. The transmission ,automatic, in it does a goofy thing once in awhile, when making a quick tight u-turn it will shift as if a slidge hammer was shifting the gears.
From a dead start on sharp turns, i.e, from a stop light, it will rev to 7k before it shifts. So far it hasn't displayed a think regarding service. I am going to change fluid and filter next month. I'm fortunate i can do all my own work. It may take a month but being single and having 2 other vehicles that's not a problem.
In hind site I'd have done a least one of two things different. Bought and alroad with less than 50k or with a warranty. I'll probably sell this one in the next 24 months.

Work with the service manager and express your worries, a little humility will get you amazing results. Most of us service managers, regardless of the business, really don't enjoy having angst ridden customers.
Good luck
