Default XM?

Hello again. I was told my 2005 2.7T AR came with satellite radio. I would really like this but when I hit the 'SAT' button it say 'NO SAT RADIO'. Does this mean I dont have it? I saw on the XM sign up page that it wants you to tune your Sat radio to station 0 but I cant get there. Would installing the OEM sat radio part be really expensive or easily done?

If you've got a SAT button, you should also have the sat prep wiring.

The module is a PITA to get at - it's bolted to the back of the CD changer bracket in the rear drivers side of the cargo area. I'm guessing that the tuner is either there & dead (or unplugged) or missing completely.

Hmmm, I wonder why it would be either dead or removed. Does anyone have sat radio and no service to it? If so what happens when your hit 'SAT'? I'm taking my car into the shop tonight so that will be added to the list...

I've heard lots of stories with corrosion inside the modules. Likely due to the fact that it's mounting position is just inside of the body sheetmetal, and I guess water/condensation can build there?

If you hit SAT and the module is there & functioning, you would be able to tune to the activation channel.

My guess is that you have SAT prep, but no module.

It looks like you can get a XM module pretty cheap. I wonder how hard it would be to install? Does the merging of Sirrius and XM mean I could use either module or is there another module for both? Thanks in advance.

If it was working, the Sirius 800 number would appear on your radio and a serial number.

Not 100% sure how XM is (that is what the OP is dealing with) as I have Sirius but my understanding is that XM modules can actually change channels before the unit is activated - you actually have to manually tune the radio to the activation channel before sending the signal.

This seems to be the part I need. It seems way too cheap to be true. Does anyone have a DIY that's allroad specific? I looked in my trunk and there's a tool box instead of access to the module.

The SAT module is very easy to get to. Take out the toolbox. Then remove the entire black metal bracket thing, it is held in with 4 or 5 bolts. Should only take 10 minutes. You may have to disconnect whatever electronics are attached to the bracket, but they just unplug and each one is a unique connector.

Looks right for use with a pre-RNS-E radio. I'm pretty certain this unit will not work with the RNS-E or if you have the factory TPMS

^^ What he said. I found it to be a PITA the first couple of times I removed the bracket, but no I can do it in 2-3 minutes. I'd strongly recommend using tape on the heads of the bolts when re-installing to prevent from dropping them. The module would actually be mounted to the rear of the bracket.
