Default your thoughts...

Hello,
I am considering purchasing an '04 2.7T AR and could use some advice.
Are current owners (especially those of you who have had your cars for a while) happy with your purchases? Would you buy the car again?
I have been following the forum for a few weeks, and I have seen numerous posts related to reliability issues with the car.
I test drove one today, and the car is plenty quick, handles well, and is overall a good looking car. However I am also reading that this is the last year for this design, and perhaps even the last year for the AR.
I am plannig on keeping the car for about 5 years, so it would be nice to know that I could depend on this car for this long...

I'd be grateful for your thoughts. Thanks.

Default What are your driving now? If it's too reliable, it must be Japanese, and

it must be somewhat boring. So is it adventure you're looking for me mate-y?

Hey, you'll find lots of adventure here. There are issues with this car. There are issues with BMW's, Volvo's, and MB's, too. Pick your poison my man...

Default a couple of thoughts..

If you're cool with the stock performance but want more handling, that's an easy fix.

If you want more speed by chipping, that's cool too. But be prepared to lay out several thou just in case the turbos or tranny go south. Now that's a real rarity and a complete roll of the dice. Still it's a possibility.

I'm still juggling the dice.

I had the same apprehension having formerly owner bullet-proof honda/nissans/toyotas.

I can only say that I very happy with my choice. I drive 100+ miles/day and the car is a fantastic road car, not comparable to anything I've owned previously. To me, its worth the risk. Since I own the car, I use mobil-1.
So far, 21K and car has been virtually flawless.

Actually I currently drive a BMW 330Ci (not boring by all means ;-)) I haven't really had any issues with my car in almost 3 years, other than the rattles that keep on popping-up on the car out of no where, but I am willing to live with those because I like the car.
However we are now in need of more space, and I find that I never get to enjoy my car anymore because I never drive it anywhere other than to work.
So...I want something that both my wife and I can drive and enjoy. I can live with the nuances of a german car, however I do not want to have to visit the dealership for warranty work every other month.
And you are right, If I wanted great reliability I would buy an RX330 or MDX. I have driven an FX35 and it was a pretty fun car to drive, however it is a little weird looking, not sure how much that design will endure..
I am also considering a new S4 Avant, however I am just having a hard time justifying paying for the $1700 gas guzzler tax, along with the price premium for a car that is relatively small.
Anyway, that is my story....

Default 2 yrs, 3 months & 25,300 miles...

I have been very pleased with the car. It is an excellent car for the highway and windy mountain roads. The only disappointment is that it is a little slow off the line until the turbo's spool up at 2000 rpm's or so. Once it is moving, it accelerates like a banshee. I especially love passing. Hit the throttle at 50 and it is clocking 90+ in a split.

I have apparently been lucky on reliability. I do an oil change every 5K (and use synthetic oil). The front brakes & rotors were replaced at the 20K service (free). I think the weakest points are the OEM tires and the front brake rotors.

With 10 months left on my lease and the lo miles, I would keep it at lease end if I wasn't moving from the mountains to the flatlands (and getting a company car next week).

2001 allroad, brilliant black, tip, premium, Bose, twin spoke wheels.

No problems for the 1st 25K miles; I'm expecting 200K w/o major expense.
