Fragrance?

Would be helpful if you have part numbers as well?

But my recollection was wrong. The canisters are in the dashboard, just above the small compartment next to the steering wheel on the left hand side. The ionizer is in the center stack.
I wonder if a place like germanautoparts.com could find the part numbers?

No part numbers, unfortunately.

So, a little Googling turns up these part numbers for the 2019 and above A8 fragrance canisters. I haven't found ones that say they fit the etron, but they might just be the same part:
G-080-401-A1 for the "Aqua summer" aroma dispenser (aka Summer fragrance)
G-080-701-A1 for the "Cool Blue" aroma dispenser (aka Winter fragrance)
G-080-401-A1 for the "Aqua summer" aroma dispenser (aka Summer fragrance)
G-080-701-A1 for the "Cool Blue" aroma dispenser (aka Winter fragrance)
Hehe, the parts are classified as hazardous material! )

So I've been arguing with the dealer who insists that the function works fine, even though the fragrance level is utterly undetectable, even at the highest setting. (When I test drove a different unit, I could distinctly tell when the function was on and when it wasn't, so I don't think I'm just hard of smelling. My wife can't tell either.) I got one line about using the ioniser shutting off fragrance, but that didn't make a difference. Now they are only saying that when they scan the car it shows no error.
Assuming, for the moment, I'm not utterly stupid, which I acknowledge is possible, is there anything I can do without needing a certified mechanic? Or is it just "take it to a different shop?"

you are not crazy. I had mine replaced at the 20K service and the fragrance level is extremely low and very different from the factory ones. But I can not get their attention. They took apart the dash and showed me the bottles and shrugged their shoulders....
